1850 Census records of Marion District SC show Jesse Welsey Bailey to be 34 and married to Catherine who was 32. The family probably moved to Florida in 1851. He served as a Calhoun County Commissioner in 1862.
"He was the son of Jonas Bailey and Ann. He was a Timberman, Cattleman, Farmer, County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace in Red Oak Community in Calhoun Co. FL.
He and his wife Catherine moved their family by covered wagon from South Carolina to Florida in about 1851. They first live in the Enconfina Creek area of Washington County and settle in the Jackson Co. FL area by about 1852.
