On 23 July Mahala Ann deeded her interest in 50 acres located in the 4th Dis5trict of Overton County to Thomas Ashlock, her brother. This 50 acres was more or less triangular in shape. The north boundary was the Tennessee-Kentucky State line. The western boundary was Stairs Ridge. The estern boundary was the Davis Trace. Acording to a researcher, it has been established that Stairs Ridge is now known as Star Ridge. In all probability, the Davis Trace followed Smith Creek which em;ties into Kettle Creek in Monroe County, Kentucky, a short distance north of the state line.

Thomas served in the War of 1812. He was drafted into Captain Edward Wilburn's Company of the 14th Regiment (Mitchisson's) Kentucky Militia. He was in the Battle of New Orleans and served for six months. He recieved a pension of $8.00 per month for his service. He requested the pension on 30 Apr 1871 under the act of Feb 14, 1871. The National Archives also shows that he received 80 acres of bounty land under the Act of 1850.

Moved to Sangamon County, Illinois sometime in 1830. He served in the War of 1812 in Captain Wiley Huddleston's Co., 34d Regiment, Tennessee Militia Infantry. He served for 6 months and he was also in the Battle of New Orleans.

The Reverend Stephen Bachilor graduated from St. John's College in Oxford, England. He came to the United States in 1632. He was described as a man of learning and ingenuity. He was the first minister of a church in Lynn, Massachusettes in 1633. Other churches are Ipswich, Massachusettes (1636), Newbury, Massachusettes (1638). He also established churches in Hampton, New Hampshire (1639), and in Saco, Maine. He returned to England around 1653-1654 and died in 1660 at the age of 99 years at Hackney near London. He was said to have married 4 times and was a the age of 72 fined for unseemly behavior in Boston, Massachusettes. His third wife was branded with an "A" for adultery. he was excommunicated ate age 90 for "unchastity".
