Orval was a farmer and Past Master of the Kerman, California Grange.
"Orval Davis Services Set -- Funeral services will be held Tuesday for Orval M. Davis, 93, who died Saturday.
A native of Iowa, Davis came to California in 1909 and operated a farm in Kerman. He moved to Santa Cruz in 1956.
Davis was past master of the Kerman Grange No. 484 and was past deputy of the California State Grange.
He is survived by a son, Samuel Davis of Santa Cruz; one daughter, Oma Vartana of Santa Cruz; three brothers, Elton Davis of Huntington Beach, Cal Davis and Vernon Davis, both of Madera; four sisters, Ethel Gardner of Leota, Kansas, Amy Bahrenfus of Madera, Ruth Dolson of Modesto and Iva Bears of Oakland; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Light Mausoleum, 1620 West elmont Ave., Fresno. The Kerman Grange No. 484 will officiate.
Friends may call at Norman's Family Chapel, 3620 Soquel Drive, Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Light Mausoleum in Fresno."--5 May 1978, Santa Cruz (CA) Sentinel

Occupation listed as farmer in 1860 Census, value of real estate $16000, value of personal estate $2000. These numbers indicate that he was a successful farmer. They came to Oswego, Ill., and in December of that year came to Paw Paw Township, DeKalb Co, Ill.
From the probate records comes this list of heirs of Richard C Davis: "The names and residences respectively of the legatees under said will other than the undersigned follows: Amelia N Wood, Dover, Ill.; Mindwell Stevens, Lyndon, Ill; Abijah P Davis, Mt. Etna, Iowa; Charles Davis, Earlville, Ill; William J. Davis, Lockwood, Mo; Albert P Davis, Riverside, Montana. Respectfully submitted, Levi N Davis, Jane E Sturgeon."
Text of the will of Richard C. Davis: "In the name of God, Amen. I, Richard C Davis of the town of Paw Paw, in County of DeKalb and State of Illinois, after age of seventy two years, and being of sound mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament, in (?) following to-wit:
First, I give and bequeath to my daughter Anitia N Wood Two Hundred Dollars; to my daughter Mindwell Stevens Two Hundred Dollars; and to my son Abijah P. Davis Two Hundred Dollars; and to Charles Davis, only child of my son Alexander Davis, deceased, Five Dollars, which said several sums of money and direct to be paid to said respective legatees, within one year of my decease.
Second, I give and devise to my daughter Elizabeth Meridell, her heirs and assigns, the house and lot of land now occupied by her, in the town of Dover in the county of Bureau and State of Illinois, together with all the hereditaments and appurtences thereunto belonging, or in any way obtaining; (?) and to hold the premises, above described, to the said Elmina Merideth, her being and (?) forever.
Third, to Jane E Davis, my house in which I now reside, together with the following parcel of land on which the house is located - commencing at the north East corner of my farm in town? of Paw Paw, in DeKalb county in State of Illinois, summary South along the road Twenty six rods, Thence west twenty three rods and ten feet is land owned by George Wirick - Thence North to a stone placed by county Surveyor, supposed to be twenty six rods - Thence East to the place of beginning, to have and to hold the said land to the said Jane E Davis, to her heirs and assigns forever.
Fourth, the remainder of all my personal and real estate, after all my just debts and funeral expenses is to be divided equally among my three sons, William J, Albert P. and Levi N Davis.
Fifth, my wish is that my executrix hereafter appointed shall settle up my estate, pay off all the legatees, without the interposition of the Court, excepting to probate this my last will and testament, in order that no (?) may be properly recorded. I do not desire that there should be any unnecessary expenses incurred in Court.
Lastly, I appoint Jane E Davis and L. H. Davis my Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunder set my hand and sent this tenth day of May in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Seventy Three. Richard C Davis
