"MRS. LOUIS WATERMAN WAS PIONEER RESIDENT -- Mrs. Louis Waterman, pioneer and a resident of the Clear Creek community for nearly 75 years, passed away at the home of her son, Ernest, of Steinauer, January 1, 1943. She lacked but a few days of reaching her 90th birthday.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan.4, at the St. Peter's Lutheran church with Rev. W. G. Nau in charge and interment in the St. Peter's cemetery beside her husband who passed away in 1933.
Obituary -- Sophia Wilhelmina Caroline Beethe, daughter of Henry and Louisa Beethe was born Jan. 10, 1853 at Roselle, Du Page county, Illinois. She was received into the Holy Christian church by the rite of baptism on January 23, 1853. An April 28, 1867, she was confirmed in the Lutheran church of Rodenberg, Cook county, Illinois.
In the following year, 1868, she came to Nebraska with her parents, who settled in the Clear Creek community. On July 11, 1875, she was united in marriage to Louis Waterman and they made their home on what is now the Carl Waterman place. Their marriage was blessed with nine children, one of whom passed away in 1933. In the same year her husband was taken. Since then she made her home with her son Carl, until the spring of this year. She passed away at the home of her son Ernest, on New Year's Day after a brief illness, attaining the ripe age of 89 years, 11 months, and 21 days.
Six sons and two daughters mourn her departure. They are, Henry of Elk Creek; Mrs Henry Kettlehke, Steinauer; August of Lincoln; Herman of Atwood, Kans.; William of Elk Creek; Ernest of Steinauer; Louisa and Carl of Steinauer; also one son-in-law, Mr. Henry Kettlehake of Steinauer and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Herman Waterman of Atwood, Kans., thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends."--6 January 1943, The Pawnee (NE) Chief.

"DEATH CLAIMS NATIVE PAWNEE COUNTY WOMAN -- Miss Emma Waterman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Waterman of Clear Creek precinct, whose untimely death was briefly reported in the Chief last week, was a native of this county, having been born on the farm home two miles east and three miles north of Steinauer on April 11, 1898.
Poison in the system was the cause of the death of Miss Waterman, and she passed away at a hospital in Sabetha, Kans., on Saturday night, Jan 28, 1933. She underwent a mastoid operation at the hospital on January 13. Her age was 34 years, 9 months and 17 days.
She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Waterman, and had spent her entire life in the community, where she was held in highest esteem by all. Besides her parents she leaves six brothers, two sisters, nine nephews, four nieces, one uncle, four aunts and many cousins and other relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Elk Creek Lutheran church and was conducted by the pastor, the Rev. I. C. Heinicke. The body was laid to rest in the church cemetery."--8 Feb 1933, "The Pawnee (NE) Chief"

"Columbus Bruce Dead -- Columbus Bruce died at the home of his son-in-law, Ray Moore, of Achilles Saturday, October 20, 1917, aged 68 years, 4 months and 7 days.
The deceased is one of the oldest settlers of Achilles township and was known and highly respected by all. Saturday evening he started to water a calf in company with his little grandson and whild on his way to the well, fell over. He told the little boy to tell his mother he was sick, but when she arrived, life had departedd. Dr. Henry Wimer was called and stated that death was caused by apoplexy. We, with other friends, extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The funeral was held Sunday and the remains laid to rest in the Achilles cemetery."--25 Oct 1917, The (Atwood KS) Square Deal
"OLD SETTLER PASSED AWAY -- The community was greatly shocked Saturday to learn of the death of Columbus Bruce, one of Rawlins county's pioneer settlers.
