"One of the most enjoyable events and in fact the only gathering of the kind we ever had the honor of attending, was the golden anniversary of Alexander Call and wife being 50 years today (Sunday, March 19th) when this aged couple pomised before God and by the laws of the state of Pennsylvania to love cherish and obey each other until death shall them part. We cannot help thinking as we saw the love and kindness bestowed upon each other that they have lived a very pleasant life together, and in a few years the memories of this old couple will be of the past. A short sketch of Father Call’s life might here be given, someone who reads this may have known him years ago. Alexander Call was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1822. Was married in Pittsburgh to Miss Hurrell in 1843. Mr. Call was engaged in the boating business from Pittsburgh to New Orleans, being what is known as a thorough river man. There is no place or point in the Ohio or Mississippi, but what Father Call is well acquainted. He gave up the river business in 1857, moved to Scott Co., Iowa and in a few years removed to Monroe Co, Iowa, thence to Putnam Co., Missouri, where he lived for 12 years and in 1880 removed to Jewell Co, Kansas, and in 1892 to our glorious county of Rawlins, where he no resides, surrounded by his only son, 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors who will always have a warm spot in their heart for Father and Mother Call. There were 45 persons paid honor to the aged couple. At 4 pm dinner was served after which we all departed for our homes feeling that it was good for us to be there."-- 24 Mar 1893, Rawlins County (KS) Democrat, Friday March 24, 1893
