"Letitia Caroline Williams was born on a farm near Burlington, July 6, 1845, and died a few weeks ago. In 1864 she was united in marriage to John L. Waite, who preceded her in death four years ago. Mr. Waite was one of the reporters in the wigwam in Chicago when Lincoln was nominated, and he flashed the news out over the telegraph to the newspapers he represented. Later he became editor of the Burlington Hawkeye, where he gained for himself an enviable reputation as a man of brain and a journalist of talent. His wife edited the women's page. Later, a number of her choicest writings were compiled and bound in a little volume, "By the Thorne Road." The introduction was written by the famous and versatile Bob Burdette."--9 May 1928, The (Davenport IA) Daily Times
