"GLASS, Bessie (Rosenbaum) Glass, 97, One Abrahms Blvd, West Hartford, died Tuesday (April 22, 1997), daughter of the late Dora and Hyman Rosenbaum of Boston, MA, widow of Mitchell Glass. Predeceased by all of her six brothers and sisters and their spouses. Born in Minsk, Belarus. Mother of Dr. Harvey L. Glass and his wife, Paula Stein of West Hartford. Mother of Norton Glass and his wife, Janice Glass of Avon. Grandmother of: Alan Glass of West Hartford, Karen Glass and her husband, Jay Levey of Los Angeles, CA, Amy Glass and her husband, Peter Geoffrion of Durham, NC, Laurie Glass of Sudbury,k MA, David Glass and his wife, Nancy Glass of West Hartford, Mitchell Glass of Chicago, IL, Michael Glass and his wife Beth Glass of Stow, MA. Great-grandmother of Robert, Jessica, Emily, Brian, Allana and Will. She was a graduate of the Boston Public School System. She was a past President of Hadassah in Woonsocket, RI and had been a member of Hadassah and American Jewish Congress in West Hartford, where she lived for almost 40 years. She was a member of Temple Beth Israel. She worked at the Underwood factory during the World War II helping to make armaments for the war effort. She was a Personal Shopper at G. Fox and Co., and later a receptionist at National Fire Insurance Company. She recorded talking books for the blind and she was a frequent visitor to nursing home residents. She passionately loved music, poetry, nature and art. She was a painter who took art lessons well into her 80's. A painting she created at age 92 was shown at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston during the Annual conference of the American Association of Homes for the Aging from where it was selected for exhibition at the State House in Boston. She completed her last painting, a landscape from memory, only two months ago. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Suggested charities: Temple Beth Israel Music Fund, 701 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06119. The Hebrew Home and Hospital, One Abrahms Blvd., West Hartford, CT 06117. "Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hartzell Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hartzell, aged 79 years, died at 7 o'clock yesterday morning at a Moline hospital after three years' illness. Mrs. Hartzell was an old settler, having formerly lived on the spot where the Rock Island arsenal is now located.
She was born in 1838 at Pennsylvania. For a number of years, she resided in the country near Moline, but on account of her illness she was removed to the hospital about two years ago.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Martha Van Order, Minneapolis, and a nephew, G. A. Watt, Moline,, also a niece, Mrs. N.H. Jamieson, Moline.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon. The Knox chapel. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery."--17 Jun 1918, The Rock Island (IL) Argus
