"Mrs. D. P. McKissick -- A life-long devoted Christian. The last milestone in a long and useful life has been reached and the eternal victory over pain, suffering and death is assured.
Death again has invaded another home in Clinton county, Mo., and claimed from it one of our most noble Christian women. Beautiful in life, triumphant in death, she lives again and walks among those who are "arrayed in white robes." On the morning of April 30, 1923 at her home near Gower, Mo., the spirit of our sister went back to the Father, who gave it.
Mary Jane Weedin was born July 17th, 1838, in Saline county, Mo., and was united in marriage to Daniel P. McKissick Jan. 17, 1858. Soon after her marriage, she consecrated her life to her savior, uniting with the Christian church and was a life long and devoted member, always holding her membership with the congregation at Gower. She with her husband who passed away 16 years ago, were prominent pioneers of that section and both lived to a ripe old age.
To them were born 10 children, four of whom survive and are now living on the old home place; Mary, Anna, Joseph and Daniel. It was their privilege to care for their parents during their old age and decline. They reared their children in the Christian faith and today they rise up and call them blessed, while they are gone.
Mrs. McKissick's life was a blessing and benediction to all who came within her sphere of influence. She was faithful and devoted to her husband, children, friends, and neighbors, and always willing to lend a helping hand in time of need. Her death is an irreparable loss to the home circle, and her friends are made desolate by her departure.
Funeral services were held from the home and conducted by her friend and former pastor, John P. Jessee, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and her body laid to rest in the old home cemetery. "To the only wise God, our Savior, be glory and majesty and dominion and power, both now and forever."--18 May 1923, Plattsburg (MO) Leader
