"Aged Belmonder Buried Thursday -- Funeral services for Ailt Riekens, 81, were held on Thursday afternoon at the Reformed Immanuel church east of town. Rev. O. G. Poppen, pastor of the church, officiated, assisted by Rev. J. Heber Miller of the Methodist church. Burial was in the Reformed church cemetery. Boone Funeral service was in charge.
Mr. Riekens passed away on Monday evening at Steele Memorial hospital after a two weeks illness. Born in Germany, he came to Iowa when 21 years of age, where he has since made his home. Mr. and Mrs. Riekens retired from farming in 1938 and moved to Belmond, and the same year celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Riekens preceded him in death in 1939. Mr. and Mrs. Riekens were the parents of eight children , all of whom are living. Mr. Riekens has made his home the past years with his daughter and son-in-law, R. and Mrs. R. "HARTZELL --Victor W. Hartzell was born in Topeka, KS, on July 14, 1913. He passed from this life on Thursday, April 29, 2004. Mr. Hartzell was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Peggy Perine Hartzell. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Wilson and husband, Lynn; grandsons, David Wilson and wife, Carla and Daniel Wilson and wife, Marcea; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Benjamin and Peter Wilson. Mr. Hartzell had a law degree and was in the FBI before moving his family to Albuquerque in 1946, where he enjoyed a life-long career in business finance. He owned his own business, "Hartzell Leasing Co" for many years. Victor belonged to the Elks Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He was also a charter member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Duke City Bridge Club and the Albuquerque Bridge Club. He loved to play cards of any kind and especially loved a lively game of poker. He taught his grandsons to play as soon as they were big enough to hold the cards. Mr. Hartzell is also survived by his Tibetan Spaniel dog, "Billy," and many friends through the dog world who loved "Grampa" and will greatly miss him. "Samuel O. Hartzell, 66, of 3630 Stratford Rd., died early today in a Topeka hospital. He was born July 15, 1905 in Topeka and had lived here continuously. Services will be Monday at Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Hartzell was a partner in Florence and Hartzell Contractors for 22 years. After retiring, he and his wife operated the Topeka Stereo Center, Inc., 3300 W. 6th. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 17, AF&AM, Topeka Consistory, Shrine and First Assembly of God Church.
He was married to Pearl A. Work at Denver Dec. 19, 1927. She survives at the home. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Thelma M. Hess, Kansas City; 2 granddaughters; 3 sisters, Mrs. Hazel Perry and Mrs. Bertie Crawford, both of San Diego and Mrs. Quindaro Brown, Topeka; and a brother, Victor Hartzell, Albquerque."--14 Oct 1971, Topeka (KS) State Journal

"John Hartsell, Sr. was born in 1760, (possibly York Co., PA) and died January 23, 1831. John married Rosena Horlacher about 1782. She was the daughter of Christopher and Anne Horlacher. Rosena was born about 1766 and died December 22, 1833. John is the son of Johann Leonhardt & Esther Leip Hertzel of Germany. John was 4 years old when his family moved to NC.
John & Rosena purchased the land in Leo, NC (now Stanfield) where their home and Hartsell cemetery is located in 1794.

John Hartsell was in Stanly County by 1794. He owned land northwest of Locust, NC on Meadow Branch of the Rocky River and also land on Rock Hole Creek near Stanfield. He is buried downhill from his home place along Rock Hole Creek. The stone is inscribed "JHS birt'1760-asJa 23 1831"
