"Silas L. Early -- Silas L. Early, retired Pennsylvania Railroad Pullman conductor, died 10 o'clock Wednesday night at his home, Carlisle, R.D. 6, just south of Carlisle along the Mt. Holly Springs pike. He was aged 90.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Melchior Ricker, Palmyra and five grandchildren, Sara Ricker, Palmyra; Raymond and Helen Early, Carlisle, and Donald and Caspar Early, New York City. The late Raymond Early of Carlisle was a son.
Mr. Early attended Geettysburg College and Nazareth Military Academy. He was born October 10, 1848, at Palmyra.
Funeral services will be 1 o'clock Saturday from the Lutz funeral home where friends may call Friday night. Burial will be at Palmyra. Rev. Dr. A. R. Ayres, Carlisle, will officiate."--26 Jan 1939, The (Carslile PA) Sentinel

"Leoti Man Weds In California -- The nuptials of Barbara Arleen Young, daughter of Mrs. Thomas Machado of Monterey, Calif., and Darrell Vernon Downs was solemized recently in the Naval Chapel in Monterey. Mr. Downs is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Downs of Leoti.
Decorations for the chapel altar featured white gladioli, pink lilies and greenery. Traditional wedding music was played.
The bride chose a gown of ballerina length white satin and lace fashioned with tapered sleeves and smalll pointed collar. She carried white roses and Lily of the valley with a shower of stephanotis and satin streamers. Her attendants wore pastel cotton and carried white carnations.
The couple will live in Monterey where the bridegroom is stationed with the navy. Mr. and Mrs. Downs of Leoti were in Monterey for their son's wedding."--4 Oct 1955, The Garden City (KS) Telegram

"Vermont Governor. In 1775 his family moved to Shaftsbury, where he became a farmer and kept an inn. He also joined the Green Mountain Boys, attaining the rank of Captain and commanding two companies in the Battle of Bennington. He was Bennington County Sheriff from 1781 to 1787, playing a key role in preventing the organizers of Shays' Rebellion from making Vermont their base of operations. Galusha served as a member of the state Council of Censors in 1792, and on the Governor's Council from from 1793 to 1798 and 1801 to 1805. From 1795 to 1797 and 1800 to 1806 he was Judge of the Bennington County Court. He was a Judge of the state Supreme Court from 1807 to 1808, and one of Vermont's presidential electors in 1808. In 1809 he was elected Governor as a Democratic-Republican, serving until 1813, when he was succeeded by Martin Chittenden, the brother of Galusha's first wife Mary. In 1814 he was President of the state constitutional convention, and in 1815 Galusha returned to the governorship, serving until 1820. He was a presidential elector again in 1820, President of Vermont's 1822 constitutional convention, and a presidential elector for the final time in 1824."--Find-a-grave
