There is record of a marriage between John Coy and Sarah Woodbury (int) Aug. 31, 1745; m by Rev John Burt, Oct 27, 1745 in "Vital Record of Rhode Island". Also, a record of an earlier marriage between John Coy "of Lemuel and Mary, and Rebecca Salisbury, of Barnard and Huth; m. by Rev. Henry Wight, June 21, 1704"

Identified in the proceedings of the first "Old Settler's Meeting" printed in the Galesburg, Ill April 11, 1867 issue as having been named by the September term, 1830 court action as a Grand Juror in the Circuit Court of Knox County. Also listed in the database "Illinois Black Hawk War Veterans" as having served in J. Ferguson's company at Gums Fort. Marriage is documented in volume 1, page 1 of Knox county marriage book.

According to Adams, occupation was Minister and he served in the Civil War.
"Rev. R.B. Coy died at his home, three miles north of town, Jan. 17, after a brief but painful illness of lagrippe. Rev. Coy was well and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was 68 years old; was an old soldier having fought 3 years to maintain the union.
He was a member of the Baptist church for 45 years and had preached for his church at various places all this time. He died in the triumph of the living faith, and his favorite song was "We are going home to die no more".
He was married three times and leaves a widow, 11 sons and one daughter and a host of friends to mourn."--24 Jan 1912, Ozark County (MO) Times
