"MRS. GLADYS GARDNER Word was received this week of the death of Mrs. Gladys Gardner, 81, who died June 9, 1976 at the Soldiers Nursing Home in Fort Dodge, Ks. She and her late husband, the Rev. W. A. Gardner were former residents of the Dykes and Huggins communities, later moving north of Houston.
Survivors are one daughter, Margaret Gentry of Topeka, Kans., two sons, Eldon Gardner of Kansas City, Mo. and Albertus of Kansas, several grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services and burial were held June 12 at Amersterdam, Mo., their former home."--17 June 1976, The Houston (TX) Herald

"Westwood Russell Tharp, 92, of Fulton, passed away Monday, December 26, 2005 at Columbia Regional Hospital.
He was born August 20, 1913 in Fulton, the son of the late James Howard and Jeanette (Leebrick) Tharp. On December 23, 1933 he was united in marriage to Grace Ethel Bonard in Jefferson City. She survives at their home.
Other survivors include a son, Bennie Tharp of Kingdom City, a daughter, Sandra K. Fritz of Fulton, three grandsons, James K. Tharp of Fulton, Kevin Fritz of Fulton and Douglas Fritz if Columbia, five granddaughters, Tanara Pann of Great Falls, Virgina, Teresa Puckett of Ashland, Tina James of Columbia Lori Tharp Teel and Mary Grace Tharp both of Kingdom City. Numerous great-grandchildren.
He was also preceeded in death by a son, a sister, and a granddaughter.
Mr. Tharp worked for the City of Fulton from September 16, 1951 until December 31, 1975. He was a guitarist and played for dances in several local bands throughout his life time, the latest which was the Harvey Morts Band, The Rhythmaires. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fulton.
Services are at 10:00AM at the Debo Funeral Home in Fulton with Brother Bruce Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Callaway Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5-7PM, Thursday at the funeral home.

"Shirley Ann Tharp, 76, of Kingdom City, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at her home.
She was born in Callaway County on November 30, 1940, the daughter of the late Roy Byrd and the late Mary (Dye) Byrd Blue.
On August 1, 1964, Shirley was united in marriage to Bennie Bernard Tharp and they were together for fifty-one years. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2016.
Shirley enjoyed reading, word search, and making trips to town to have dinner with her friends and going to the free store. She loved watching Moonshiners, Alaskan Bush People and her soap operas. She spent a lot of time watching and feeding her hummingbirds and playing with her dog, Otis Lee. The greatest moments of her life were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered as a selfless and kind-hearted person who always made sure others less fortunate than her were cared for.
Shirley’s memory will be cherished by her daughters, Lori Teel (Jeff) of Kingdom City, and Mari “Missy” Tharp of Calwood; brothers, Charles Edward "Buddy" Byrd (Marsha) of Fulton; grandchildren, Brittaney Huddleston, Lindsey Teel, Hailey Salmons (Derek Henke), Jesse Wright, and Devon Teel; great-grandchildren, Jadynn Huddleston, Caden Teel, Connor Huddleston, Paxton Abbett, and Cooper Webb; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Along with her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by daughter, Pamela Sue Tharp; brothers, Nollie Byrd and Roy Byrd and sister, Mary Lee Lepley.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

"John Zinn Hartzell died at his home in East Newport on Sunday at 2:20 p.m. aged 63 years. His daughters, Mrs. George Monroe of King's Park, L.I. and Mrs. Carrie Pee of Harrisburg and the former's friend, Frs. Frank Bernard of King's Park, andhis son, H. O. Hartzell and wife of Harrisburg were at home to spend Sunday with their parents. Mr. Hartzell had eaten a hearty noon meal. After dinner, he complained of not feeling well and going onto the porth, it was found necessary to help him into the house. A physician was summoned, but he died within an hour of a stroke of apoplexy, although he had been more or less of an invalid for four years, not being able to work during that time, before which he had been active as a teamster. He was an expert boatman for many years, continuing at that business until a short time before the canal was abandoned, and to boatmen he was known as "Pud" Hartzell, having many friends among those who followed the same avocation. Mr. Hartzell was a school director for nine years, was jury commissioner for several terms and was always active in township politics. He was born in Olvier township and was a son of Michael and Keziah Unice (Martin) Hartzell, both of whom are dead. Forty-five years ago he was married to Leucettia Myers who with the abov e named children and two of ther daughters, Mrs. John Weidle of Wrightsville and Mrs. Sinclair McClenaghan of Harrisburg, survive him. Two children died when young. Mrs. Willis Sunday of this place and Mrs. Frank Gray of Philadelphia are his surviving sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m., by his pastor Rev. J.C. Collins of the M.E. church of this place, of which he was a consistent member, with interment in Newport cemetery, the pallbearers being J.M. Barrick, Charles Jones, C.K. Manning, John Campbell, Charles Pee and John Murphy. Those who attended the funeral of the late Mr. Hartzell from out of town were: Mrs. Darah McBride, Mr. and Mrs. William Wright, John and William Famous, Mrs. Elton Hartzell, Mrs. Charles Williams, Rev. Charles Hartzell, Roscoe Burd, Harisburg; Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Myers, Turkey Valley, and daughter, Miss Bertha Myers, Millerstown; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rowe and daughter, and Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, Thompsontown; Mrs. Fiana Foley, three sons and a daughter, Shamokin; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Manning, Marysvill and Miss Elizabeth Hartzell, Danville."--7 Aug 1913, The (Newport PA) News.
