"DEATH OF ALEXANDER M'ALLISTER, ESQ--Died, in New Buffalo, on Tuesday the 20th instant, Alexander McAllister, Esq., aged 77 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Mr. McAllister was a native of Dauphin county. He removed to Perry when a young man; was married to Elizabeth Baughman, in 1826, who is now left to mourn his death after more than half a century of happy married life. They were the parents of nine children, the eldest Col. John B., now of Oil City; the youngest the late District Attorney of Perry county. Mr. McAllister was for many years a successful farmer in Watts township; a good neighbor, a useful citizen and what has been said to be "the noblest work of God"--an honest man.
When years began to be a burden, he left his farm and retired to New Buffalo, where he has been quietly living for the last nine years. Mr. McAllister was for more than thirty years a consistent member of the Methodist E. Church. He is now, no doubt, reaping the reward of those who place their trust in the atonement made on Calvary. His funeral was very largely attended by relatives friends and neighbors. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. T.M. Griffeth, from Psalms XXXVII, and 37. Watts township, Jan 22, 1880."--28 Jan 1880, the Perry County (Bloomfield, PA) Democrat.

A GOOD MAN GONE
Death Of A. U. McAllister At The Home Of His Son
A. U. McAllister died at the home of his son, E. A. McAllister, on Seventh street, at 6 a.m. today. For the past year or so Mr. McAllister had been living at Montpelier, where he and his son carried on an extensive machine shop. He and Mrs. McAllister returned from there a few weeks ago. The deceased was then in feeble health and steadily grew worse until death cut short a long and honorable career. A. U. McAllister was a well known and well respected citizen of this county. He was a boiler maker by trade and had conducted a boiler making establishment in this city for many years. He was sixty-two years old and most of his life had been spent in Logansport. He was a veteran of the late war and leaves an honorable record as a member of the Forty-sixth Indiana regiment. He was a member of Post 14 G. A. R. of this city. For many years he served as a member of the water works board. The funeral services will be held on next Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The news of his death will be received with sadness by his hosts of friends."--26 May 1897, Logansport (IN) Pharos-Tribune
