Living with siblings in 1860 after death of both parents.
"Born in Emma Township, White Co., Ill., April 26, 1840, is a son of Edward and Martha (Bradbury) McCallister, and a grandson of Edward McCallister, a native of Ireland, who came to this country over a century ago. He (Edward) served in the Revolutionary war. He came to White County in 1801. His father was a native of this county and his mother of Kentucky. His father died in 1856 and his mother in 1848. When fourteen years of age, Mr. McCallister went to Knox County, Ill., and remained one year. When he was twenty years old he commenced for himself; engaged in farming two years. He enlisted in the war of the Rebellion, in Company G, Seventh Illinois Independent Cavalry, and served three years and one month. Participated in the battle of Corinth, and followed the regiment in all its campaigns to within three months of the time he was mustered out of service. He came home and bought land on section 34 and other parts of Emma Township, amounting to 600 acres. He now owns 120 acres on section 7, and the block in Concord where he is doing business. He was married May 14, 1864, to Henrietta Burrell, daughter of William and Rebecca Burrell, old settlers of this county. They are the parents of seven children, four of whom are living--Emma S., Lenora, Gilbert and Wesley. Anna Rebecca died in 1868; Enola and Warren (an infant) died in 1872. Politically he is a Democrat. he has been Constable of this township two years; was elected for four years but resigned at the expiration of two; was Town Clerk one year. He is Postmaster of Concord, for a second time. He has a good trade in his business; is also engaged quite extensively in buying wheat, as an agent for Staley & Ivey, of Carmi. Mr. McCallister draws a pension on account of a disease contracted in the army."--History of White County Illinois, together with sketches of its cities....(1883)

"Born 25 Sep 1845 in Emma Township, White County, a son of Edward and Martha (Bradbury) McCallister, was raised on the homestead, which has been in the family since 1815. When he was seventeen years old, he enlisted in September, 1863, in Company G, Seventh Illinois Cavalry, and served two years and three months, and was mustered out in November 1865. Was in the battles of Franklin, Columbia, Nashville and also several smaller skirmishes; entered as a private and was promoted to Corporal, and from that to a Sergeant. Followed the regiment all through its campaigns. He was married 12 Aug 1868, to Exaline Tuggle, daughter of Lawson O. Tuggle, resident of Georgia. They have four children--Everett, Ira, Ionia and Adam, all living at home. His wife died Aug. 17, 1878. Mr. McCallister has 240 acres in his place, which he has under a good state of cultivation. Politically he has been a Democrat. has served nine years as Justice of the Peace for this township, and one year as Supervisor."--History of White County, Illinois, together with sketches of its cities...(1883)
"Death of Wesley McCallister --June 6, 1913.
Mr. Wesley McCallister was stricken with rheumatism at the home of his son Odum McCallister. He was carried on a cot to his house. His friends and relatives stayed with him to carry out his wants. Mr. McCallister was born in Emma Twp., White Co., Ill., Sept. 25, 1845. He was 67 years 8 months 11 days. He was a son of Edward and Martha Bradbury McCallister. When he was 17 years he enlisted, in Sept. 1863, Co. G 7th Ill Cavalry and served 2 years 3 month, being mustered out Nov. 1865. He was in battles of Franklin, Columbia and Nashville. We went from Private to sergeant on his return home he married Miss Exaline Tuggle, daughter of Mr. Lawson O. Tuggle Aug. 12, 1868. To this union were born Everett, Ira, Iona and Odum. Mrs McCallister died Aug. 17, 1878. Squire McCallister moved to Carmi twenty years ago. He moved again after coming to Carmi. His widow Bettie, three sons and daughter survive him. He was a Mason. Interment in Big Prairie Cemetery."

" William McAllister, brother of Thomas, is of special note since he had a commission in the War of 1812. He was born in 1788/92 in Kentucky, but the family moved to Virginia where he grew up and eventually married Belana Frazier, 1796-1841. In that state, he held offices in the county government. He and his branch of the family moved to Madison County in the fall of 1835 and bought property close to other McAllister members in Adams Township. "MARRIED:--At the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cornelson, their daughter, Myrtle and Max W. Hartzell of Nowata, Rev. McNabb, of the M.E. church at Peru, officiating. This young couple are well and favorably known in this community as the groom grew to manhood in this vicinity and is known as an upright, honorable young man. He is now in Electrical business in Nowata, Oklahoma. The bride has resided in this community for the past six years and with her pleasant way and amiable disposition has made friends of all who know her. Their many friends wish them a long happy life. They will reside in Nowata. The following invited guests were present: Messrs and Mesdames R.M. Hartzell, R.W. Winans, Cleve Scott, Lester Williams, Misses Mabel and Minnie Cornelison and Dorothy Hartzell, Messers Harold Hartzell and Ray Childers.
