"At Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetary, Jasper, Georiga, Edward Johnson rests with three wives next to him. Eliza Scott Johnson, the third wife, outlived him. There were children by all three wives. Their descendants are many and there is much yet to be known about the origin and history of the Edward Johnson family of Pickens County, Georgia.
Edward and Catherine moved from Union County, Georgia, and settled in Gilmer County which is now Pickens County. This farm was near the farms of Josiah and Quilla Reece who also moved into Gilmer County from Union County. Edward and Catherine had 5 children.
Edward Johnson and John Evans, Pickens County resident, were friends so when John was killed, Edward was the administrator of the estate of John Evans. Edward later married the widow of John Evans, Eady Melvina Evans on April 17, 1858. Eady had one daughter, Mary Jane, by John.
Edward's second wife, Eady, died on January 24, 1877. This again left him as a widower with young children.
On May 22, 1877, Edward married for the third time to Eliza Scott. Eliza was from Walhalla, South Carolina. She was living in Pickens County at the time of their marriage. There were two children born into this marriage.
Edward and his families as far as we can determine lived on the same farm in Pickens County from the time he moved here from Union County. This farm was situated on the Talking Rock Highway north of Jasper, Georgia. He was a farmer and did buy and sell land. Edward died on November 23, 1883. Eliza Scott Johnson was left with small children. There is no record that she ever remarried. Eliza Scott died on February 7, 1918."
Alternate birthplace is Bladenboro, Bladen county, North Carolina, per Find-a-grave
