"Shoe Manufacturer Ends Life In Central City Hotel---M.J. Knickerbocker, Despondent Over Domestic Troubles, Asphyxiates Self. Despondent over domestic troubles and financial difficulties, according to the police, Milton J. Knickerbocker, fifty, said to be part owner of a shoe factory at Marathon, N.Y., ended his life in the hotel of Chris Liebrich, at 522 Lackawanna avenue, Wednesday morning.
Knickerbocker had stuffed the doors and windows of his room and the gas let in the room was open. The discovery that the man had ended his life was made by Carrie Liebrich, daughter of the hotel proprietor, who smelled the gas fumes coming from the room. She knocked on the door, and when she received no response she entered and found Knickerbockker stretched across the bed. The State hospital ambulance was called, but hospital physicians found that the man had been dead for some time. He had rented a room at the hotel a week ago."--26 Jun 1924, The Scranton (PA) Republican

The affair was so quiet that Mr. Rempe did not even tell his most intimate friends of the event until yesterday.
The affair, though, was hardly an elopement. Miss Mame Rempe, his sister, and Henry Liebrich, the bride's sister, attended the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Rempe are both popular and well known. They spent a brief honeymoon in the metropolis, and they are now at home to their friends at 615 South Webster avenue."--22 Oct 1910, The Scranton (PA) Truth
