"Parents petition for prayer in schools -- ....Susan Leebrick, a parent of two high school students, said she is hesitant to have tgeachers lead prayer in elementary or middle school because young kids are impressionable. She said it would be OK for high school students.
Her son, Kevin Leebrick, an 11th grader at Palm Bay High School and a Christian, said he woould support teacher-led prayer in school even if teachers asked students of different faiths to pray.
'If a Jewish teacher asked me to pray a Jewish prayer instead of a Christian prayer, I would still feel comfortable.' he said. 'I think prayer is good in any way. And I think it would broaden the understanding of all religions.'
Leebrick, who prays with fellow students before chorus competitions and is part of a religious club on campus, said prayer is needed. 'Across the country we've seen school shootings, drugs and violence,' he said. 'I think it's happening because we're telling God we don't want him in school That needs to change. I think prayer would make students think twice about doing those kinds of things because they would have to be accountable to a higher being,
