"Loie Irel Downs, daughter of Ira Downs and wife Millie Downs, was born at the family residence, west of Lydia, on August 15, 1918, and left this world for her Heavenly home at three o'clock, October 26, 1921.

Little Irel was only permitted to spend three years, two months and eleven days on earth, but brought with her a wealth of sunshine and left all who knew her a rich heritage of love and happy memory. Those who know her best speak of her bright disposition, her love for music and all the beautiful things of life. She was a loyal little Sunday school scholar who had learned and who loved to tell in her childish way the story of Jesus.

To her father, mother, brothers and sisters she a truly a treasure gone before to await their coming in that happy Heavenly home where sorrow never enters and where joys never cease. She left to mourn her early passing from life, besides her father and mother, seven brothers and sisters: Lloyd, Vernon, Laura, Ira, Jackson, Emil, Vardie and Horace."--Clay Center (KS) Times, Nov. 10, 1921
