"Social Service Pioneer Passes Away --Memorial Services for Mrs. Carrie Leebrick Conducted Monday by Dr. Williston Wirt. Memorial services for Carrie Nairn Leebrick, 81, of 605 Del Mar avenue, were conducted Monday afternoon in the Chula Vista Community church by Dr. Williston Wirt, pastor, who revealed during the service that her personal motto had been "The Rent I Pay for the Space I Occupy is Service". Mrs Leebrick passed away in her home Saturday.
She pioneered in welfare work in two positions of significant leadership during her life. Starting in Burlington, Iowa, and following the pattern of Jane Adams in Hull House, for almost 15 years she supervised the welfare program throughout the city and county, originating the children's clinic. Later, following her marriage to James H. Leebrick, she came to California and was called to direct the welfare program for the city of Santa Ana. Here, for 19 years commencing in 1917, she did a great human service, and among other things laid the foundation of the Orthopedic and children's clinic. Her husband states that many people in Orange county are now walking normally today, who otherwise woould be crippled, because of the orthopedic work done under her direction.
Besides her husband, she leaves four sisters to mourn her passing. They are Margaret Nairn, Cecelia Nairn and Ganes Wagner, all of Alabama, and Amia Finch of Berkeley."--28 Feb 1947, The Chula Vista (CA) Star

"ARRAIGNS SIGNERS TO THE PETITION AGAINST FRANCHISE ON POINT LOMA -- Surveying Parties Will Start Locating Lines in Roseville and Ocean Beach Tomorrow --Preliminary surveys of the route which the Point Loma Syndicatge will follow in construction of the line from this city to Old Town, Fort Rosecrans and Ocean Beach will be started tomorrow by George Leebrick and a party of eight men. The work will be started at Ocean Beach, where lines will be run along streets which the company proposes to use for its line, and also along streets at Roseville Jesired for the same purpose.
If the franchise for the line, which has been applied for, is granted, actual work of construction will be started as quickly as possible. Mr. Leebrick, who will have charge of the surveys, is a man of much experience, having been in the employ of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railway, the Great Northern railway and other big lines.
An amended petition for the franchise will be filed by D.C. Collier and his associates at the meeting of the street committee Thursday asking, among other things, for permission to haul freight over the proposed line to and from the military reservation."--20 January 1907, San Diego (CA) Union

"ENGINEERS BEGIN SURVEY OF PT. LOMA LINE -- George Leebrick With Assistants Started This Morning to Fix Route from Ocean Beach -- WILL BE DECIDED UUPON THURSDAY -- Under the direction of Engineer George Leebrick, the preliminary survey for the Point Loma electric line between Ocean Beach and Old Town was begun this morning. It is expected that it will require only about two or three days to complete this work and that the route will definitely be decided upon by the time of the meeting of the street committee which will probably be held Thursday.
While the general route of the line was determined upon some time ago there is a s trong possibility of a change being made, but as no decision has been reached in this matter as yet, the promoters will not give out any of the proposed changes.
It is undersood to be the plan of the Point Loma Electric company to defintely fix the route and begin the construction immediately after the franchise has been granted."--21 January 1907, Evening Tribune (San Diego CA)

"WILD AUTO HITS TENT OF CAMPERS--COVINA PARTY AWAKENED RUDELY WHEN MOTORIST DRIVES OVER SLEEPERS--A.W. Feist and Mrs. Feist's uncle, George Leebrick, had a close escape Easter morning, while sleeping on the ground in a tent at least 40 feet off the boulevard, a short distance from Chula Vista, near San Diego.
About 2:30 in the morning, an automobile, speeding along at a rapid rate, left the highway and ran into the tent, two side wheels passing over the bodies of the occupants. The tent was picked up and carried along the rear of the auto. The driver, of Mexican descent, stopped after getting into the highway again, but while the two men were attempting to dislodge the tent, stepped on the gas and sped away, tent and all. The number of the car, a Dodge, had been taken and was later discovered by authorities near Tia Juana and returned to its owner in San Diego, from whom it had been stolen.
Just what the motive of the man might have been is not known. He did not appear to be intoxicated. The wheels passed over Mr. Feist's body across the lower part of the back, severely straining the muscles, from which he is still suffering. He was also struck by the machine about the head, having arisen slightly upon hearing the approach of the car. The weight of the machine passed over the ribs of Mr. Leebrick, the injuries causing him to be confined to his ed the greater part of a week. Both, however, were able to get on their feet immediately after the accident. It is probably that the bed clothes protected them from more serious injury."--20 Apr 1928, Covina (CA) Argus
