Torrington, Sept. 30--(Special.)--Torrington was set back 6-0 by Ansonia High at Ansonia Saturday afternoon in a Naugatuck Vallley League interscholastic contest. "SANDOWICH, Paul..On December 17, 2008, age 86 years. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Zilkow) of Collingswood, formerly of Haddon Heights. Devoted father of Paula Beach (Dick) of Pipersville, PA and David Sandowich (Sue) of Haddon Heights. Also survived by a brother Andy of Ansonia, CT and six grandchildren.
Mr. Sandowich was born in Ansonia, CT. He was a Connecticut All State Football player and was inducted into the Ansonia Football Hall of Fame in 1986. He served as a second class Petty Officer in the US Coast Guard during WW II, and worked for Curtis Publishing Company for over 23 years. Mr. Sandowich was a resident of Haddon Heights for over 50 years and was a long time active member of Haddon Heights Baptist Church."--19 Dec 2008, (Camden, NJ) Courier-Post

Gardner Killed. Carol Gardner, 34, wife of Arthur Gardner, owner of A and M Air Conditioning, was killed Thursday afternoon when a tow chain snapped and crashed through the windshield of her van. The accident occurred 10 1/2 miles north of Selkirk. Mr.s Gardner, who was approximately seven months pregnant, was sitting in the front seat of her van while her husband was attempting to pull the van from a snowbank near their home, according to Sheriff Mel McKellips. A heavy tow rope with chain tied to both ends was being used. The chain snapped an crashed through the windshield on the west side of the van, striking Mrs. Gardner in the head. Death was instantaneous. Mr.s Gardner was a former teacher at R.B. Stewart Elementary School. - Leoti Standard, Leoti, Kansas, December 21, 1981
