ATWOOD -- Claude G. Kisling, 87, died Wednesday (Dec. 18, 2002) at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.
He was born Oct. 11, 1915, to Charles and Lydia (Gatlin) Kisling in Rawlins County.
On April 27, 1937, he married Irene Leebrick in Rawlins County. He was a farmer-stockman until his retirement. After retiring and moving to Atwood, he became the Rawlins County Ambulance Director and continued his training to be an instructor-coordinator, teaching EMT classes and working on the state level giving tests to EMT's.
He was a member of the Federated Church of McDonald, served on the school board and the hospital board, and worked on a committee of the ASCS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Foster; and brother-in-law, Vic Foster.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Atwood; one daughter, Diane and husband, Ron Geurin of Metamora, Ill.; sister-in-law, Lucille Denny of Colby, Kan.; brother-in-law, Wilbur Leebrick and wife, Virginia of Atwood and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Federated Church in McDonald with the Rev. Gregory Moyer officiating. Interment will be in the Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m., and Saturday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Federated Church of McDonald or the Atwood Second Century Fund.

A more detailed obituary was also published, as follows: Claude G. Kisling of Atwood died Dec 18, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood, Ks. He was born Oct. 11, 1915 in Rawlins County, Kan, the only son of Charles and Lydia Kisling.
After graduating from high school, he joined his father in farmer, a partnership that lasted until his father's health failed.
He was united in marriage to Irene Leebrick April 27, 1939 and to this union one daughter, Diane Kathleen, was born. They began their married life on a farm in Nebraska, just across the border from Kansas. A few years later, they moved to his home place where they resided until retiring and moving to Atwood in 1974.
Claude was a skilled mechanic and not only kept his own machinery in good running order, but was always ready to help his neighbors with their machinery. He was also a fine carpenter who designed and built an addition to his farm home as well as his home in town. He also helped build the educational building at his church in MdDonald and helped with cabinet work at the hospital in Atwood.
He was a member of the Federated Church in McDonald and served on the church board for a number of years. He was always interested in his community and served on the school board, the hospital board and on the committee of the ASCS where he became acquainted with most of the farmers in Rawlins County.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. While the grandchildren were still quite young, he became taking the whole family on summer vacations to various parts of the US and Canada, and when the grandchildren were teenagers, a trip to Europe. He and Irene had enjoyed lots of trips to various parts of the us, old Mexico and Canada as well as trips to Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries.
After retiring and moving to Atwood, he became the ambulance director and did what he loved to do - help the sick and injured. He went to KU Medical Center and trained to be an instructor-coordinator. He taught EMT classes and also worked on the state level giving tests to EMTs. Claude was happiest when he could be of service to those around him and this period of his life gave him plenty of opportunity for this.
Those who survive him are his wife, Irene, of the home; daughter Diane and her husband, Ron Guerin; two grandchildren, Michelle Hahn and her husband Mark and Brian Guerin; sister in law,, Lucille Denny; brother-in-law, Wilbur Leebrick and wife Virginia; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Those who preceded him in death were his parents; his sister, Dorothy Foster; brother-in-law Vic Foster; and two nieces, Ann Foster Hein and Linda Leebrick.
In the last few years of his life as he lived with Parkinson's disease, he looked forward to his heavenly inheritance and spent Christmas in heaven this year.
Funeral services were held Dec 21 from the Federated Church in McDonald with Pastor Gregory Moyer officiating. Burial was in Atwood Fairview Cemetery.
