George Wright, colored, was fined $50 and given a month on the charge of bringing a cargo of liquor from Baltimore; S.M. Hopkins pleaded guilty to selling paregoric without a permit, and he was fined $10; Massie Leebrick, charged with drinking in a public place and giving liquor to two young women from Rockbridge County, was fined $50 and given a month in jail; John Miller, colored, who pleaded guilty to stealing an automobile from O.L. "Charge Two Impersonated..LYNCHBURG, April 23.--William Baldock and Massie Leebrick, young men who were arrested last night on the charge of impersonating Detectives Childress and Tankersley, and searching baggage of members of a carnival company at the Hotel Lamont, were convicted in the Police court today of a common law trespass, and were fined $50 and given thirty days in jail. An appeal was noted to the Corporation court from the judgment of the Police Court. The charge was brought to the attention of the police department by some of the owners of baggage which had been searched, and the men were arrested by Sergeant Wilson and Policemen Smith and Wheeler. The owners of the baggage later reported that nothing was missing. The police have heard of several instances lately where baggage has been searched by men claiming to be detectives, just a few nights ago a man reporting that some one took a quart of liquor from him, claiming to be a detective."--24 April 1919, Richmond (VA) Times Dispatch.
