"Miss M. R. Liebrich Dies at Age of 85--Operated Vegetable Garden Many Years on North Street.--Miss Mary R. Liebrich, who once grew fancy vegetables in a section that now is practically downtown Indianapolis, died yesterday in the home at 620 West North street, where she had spent her entire life. She was 85 years old.
Left parentless with four younger brothers and sisters when she was 20 years old, Miss Liebrich set about raising and selling vegetables for the city's leading families. She developed a market for asparagus and other vegetable delicacies in a day when most garden products were a mere back-yard side line.
Earned Family's Living. Miss Liebrich earned a living for the family she had acquired upon the death of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis J. Liebrich. She found time, too, to teach a Sunday school class from 1872 to 1877 at Zion Evangelical Church, of which she was a life member.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 o'clock tonight at the residence. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery.
Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Webb of Chicago and Mrs. Christena J. Sehrt of Indianapolis. Two brothers, Louis J. Liebrich and George J. Liebrich have died."--8 Dec 1940, The Indianapolis (IN) Star
