"Ruby Belle Leebrick Baker, 96, of Lynchburg, died May 14 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Peyton Carrington Baker. Born May 27, 1915, in Madison Heights, she was the daughter of the late James Leslie Leebrick and the late Nena Woody Leebrick.
Mrs. Baker was a retired nurse’s aide for the Central Virginia Training Center, where she served for 22 years. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church for 50 years. Mrs. Baker was also a retired clerk from Liberty University.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by eight siblings, Massie S. Leebrick, William (Bill) Leebrick, Clarence E. Leebrick, Otis L. Leebrick, Mable E. Leebrick Johnson, Lillie J. Leebrick Fitzgerald, Archie Leebrick and Gertrude M. Leebrick Layne.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her two sons, Peyton S. “Sandy” Baker and his wife Sandy of Forest and Leslie L. Baker and his wife Patricia also of Forest; three grandchildren, Sarah Baker Lawson and her husband Doug, Carrie Baker Dodge and her husband Christopher and Katherine Peyton Baker; five great-grandchildren, Peyton, Taylor, Sophie, Anna Kate and Phebe Belle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was conducted May 17 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Jonathan Falwell and the Rev. George Hatmaker officiating. The family received friends May 16 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
The family wishes to express special thanks to their good friends, George and Anna Hatmaker for all their care and kindness.
