Evangelist minister. The ancestors of Daniel Toy were Catholic and Lutheran. The Lynch line were Catholic and the Slagle family were Lutheran. However, Daniel Toy became very disenchanted with the Catholic church, the faith in which he was raised, and became an evangelist/minister traveling and working with many of the great evangelists of the day such as Dwight Moody, Wilbur Chapman and Billy Sunday.
"DEATH OF EVANGELIST. -- The Rev. Daniel S. Toy Had conducted Revivals in Many States. EVANSVILLE, Ind., February 20. -- The Rev. Daniel S. Toy, a widely known evangelist, died of a complication of diseases here today. For the last two years he had made his home in this city with his daughter, Miss Frances Toy, industrial secretary of the Young women's Christian Association. He was sixty-nine years old, and was born at New Oxford, Pa. He is survived by six children, among them being Charles Toy, of Indianapolis. The Rev. Mr. Toy had conducted revival services in almost every state in the Union. He retired recently from active work."--20 Feb 1918, The Indianapolis (IN) News

"Mrs. Phillip Byers --CLYDE, O. -- Mrs. Mabel Byers, 71, 547 Race street, died Saturday at 10 p.m. at her home. She had been in failing health three years, seriously ill three weeks.
A Clyde resident for 50 years, she was associated with the French Nursery. She was a charter member of the Mother's club, past member of the Progress club, First Presbyterian church and the Samaritan class of the church. She was also a member of the Fremont Federation of Women and the auxiliary of Memorial hospital.
Born September 17, 1891 in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Daniel and Katherine Hall Toy. She spent her early life in Maryland. She was married to Phillip Byers July 9, 1913. He preceded her in death. Three brothers and two sisters are also deceased.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Fred (Marian) Mann, Clyde; Mrs. Herbert (Katherine) Shiver, Schuykill Haven, Pa.; Mrs. Jack (Alice) Vogelsang, Mobile, Ala.; Mrs. John (Ann) Pearson, Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Charles Leebrick, Los Angeles, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at the Mitchell-Auxter funeral home Monday after 7 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. Charles Hale officiating. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery."--20 May 1963, The (Fremont, OH) News-Messenger
