From the 11 Dec 1903 issue of "The Oskaloosa (KS) Independent: B.L. Rouse, a former resident of Perry, died in Lawrence last Thursday of cancer of the mouth. The body was brought to Perry and interred at Oak Ridge. He leaves a widow and four children, Mrs. A. S. Gardner of Michigan Valley, Osage Co., J.W. Rouse and Mrs. John Sample of Perry and Mrs. May Kunkel of Lawrence, to mourn his departure.

From Find-A-Grave: Birth: Nov. 3, 1825
Putnam County

Death: Dec. 3, 1903
Lawrence
Douglas County
Kansas, USA

"The death of Mr. B. L. Rouse occurred in Lawrence last Thursday, caused by cancer of the mouth, from which the deceased had suffered for more than a year. From its inception up to his death the progress of the tumor was steady. It seems that only in death was there any relief and at 1:30 o'clock Thursday the patient sufferer gently sank into that slumber that knows no earthly waking.
The remains were brought to Perry on the morning train Saturday and at 2 p.m. funeral services conducted by Rev. Musser were held at the Methodist church. A large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives witnessed the last sad rites and followed the remains to their final resting place in Oak Ridge cemetery.
B. L. Rouse was born in Putman county, Ind., Nov. 3, 1825. He came to Iowa with his parents while in his boyhood, and later, in the summer of 1867, the family removed to Kansas, where the deceased has made his home ever since.
Mr. Rouse was married March 24, 1850, to Emily Browning and to them were born six children. They are: Mrs. John Sample, J. W. Rouse, Perry; Mrs. May Kunkle, Lawrence; B. J. Rouse, K.C.; Mrs. M. J. Gardner, Osage county and Mrs. R. F. Eaton, Oregon, all of whom with the mother are still living. All the family except the daughter in Oregon were present at the funeral.
Mrs. B. L. Rouse and children wish to thank their friends for their kindness during their late sad misfortune."--10 Dec 1903, Perry (KS) Mirror
