From the 1892 Great Register, comes this physical description. 64 years old, 5'8" tall, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, no marks or scars, birthplace, Md, residence, Yorkville.

John married first in Glasgow, Mo, on 29 Dec 1853, but she died a few months later on 16 Aug 1854.

Obit appeared in Ukiah Daily Journal, 15 Mar 1895. "The sufferings of John O. Ogle came to a final close at three o'clock last Friday morning, when he passed quietly away surrounded by his loving wife and children. Death was mainly the result of cancer of the stomach, from which the deceased had been suffering for a long time past, though confined to his bed only about three weeks. John Oliver Ogle was born January 19, 1827, at Dublin, Frederick County, Maryland. He graduated from Marshall college in 1852, and the following year went to Missouri, where in the fall of 1857, after a course of study, he was admitted to the bar. On Sept 22, 1858, he married Miss Matilda Leebrick, who with six grown children - four boys and two girls - survive him. He came to California in 1864, and located in Sonoma county, hear Cloverdale, where he lived till 1872, when he moved to Yorkville, this county, and resided on a ranch purchased there. Eighteen years later he disposed of the ranch and came to this city, where he lived a quiet life till the time of his death. He practiced little law after coming to this State.
Deceased was quiet and unobtrusive in his manner, and lived a most exemplary life. He was both honest and generous, and his great pleasure was in the midst of his family. His friends were always welcome at his fireside and were treated with that courtesy so well in keeping with true friendship. His eldest child, Edwin, whose home is in Humbolt county, arrived at the bedside just three hours before the spirit parted.
The funeral took place from the M. E. Church South Sunday afternoon, Rev, H. C. Meredith officiating, and was largely attended. Those who bore the remains to their last resting place in Ukiah cemetery were: Samuel Hooke, J. A. Jamison, Sr., Chas Luce, Wm Ford, J Barrik and Mart Baechtel, the two last named being acquaintances of deceased from early boyhood, Mr. Baechtel his college mate at the Marshall Academy.
May the ashes of the departed citizen rest in peace."--15 Mar 1895, Ukiah (CA) Daily Journal
