"Pioneer Apartment House Owner Dies Here"
Charles W. Leebrick Sr 94, of 529 West First street, pioneer apartment house owner and operator, father of Robert J. Leebrick, vice-president and general manager of the Leebrick & Fisher Corp. here, died yesterday at his home.
Leebrick was born in Dublin, Indiana and operated a hardware business in Peru, Ind for 40 years before he moved to Long Beach in 1908. He completed the Leebrick apartments at 529 West First, in 1909, and managed the place until his death yesterday. When the building was finished, it was the 50th apartment house building in Long Beach.
In addition to Robert, he is survived by another son, Charles W. Leebrick Jr. of Los Angeles, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Private funeral services will be conducted in Mottell's chapel at 1 pm tomorrow.
Charlie wrote to Hazel McMahan that their home in Dublin, Indiana was a station on the underground railroad and many a night, he carried soup or stew in the milk bucket to runaway slaves hiding in the hay loft.

His sister Mary's 1906 death notice describe him as being of Winona Lake, In.

"Charles Leebrick Dies--Charles W Leebrick, former Peru resident, is dead at his home in Long Beach, Calif., at the age of 94, it was learned Tuesday by his nephew, George C. Miller, secretary of the Peru Trust Co. In the waning days of the last century, Mr. Leebrick was manager of the hardware department of the old Shirk and Miller store here.
