Attended grade school at Ransom, KS and graduated from Ransom Rural High School in 1936. Taught school at Eureka School for 2 years and then went to Ft. Hays State College from 1938 to 1940. Taught grade school in Ransom, KS for the next 4 years. After their marriage in 1944, she and Erwin lived in Kingsville and Corpus Christi, TX until he went to Guam.
"Vera A. Kuhlman LAKIN -- Vera A. Kuhlman, 92, of Lakin, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Baylor Medical Center, Carrollton, Texas. She was born June 8, 1918, in Ransom, the daughter of Albert Filo and Minnie Alice (Douglass) Brock.
Vera grew up as a child in Ransom and attended schools there. She then attended Fort Hays State University.
She moved to Kearny County in the early 1940s, and has lived in Northern Kearny County since. A homemaker, Vera also worked at the hospital while she lived in Ransom. She also worked as an elementary school teacher in Ransom and in a rural school in Northern Kearny County.
Vera enjoyed sewing, gardening and raising flowers. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakin, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Community Builders Club, served on the Extension Executive Board, served as a 4-H leader, served as a Sunday school teacher, the Council on Aging, volunteered at Budget Shop and served as a news reporter for the Lakin Independent.
On July 13, 1944, Vera married Erwin R. Kuhlman in LaCrosse. Erwin died Sept. 30, 2006. Vera also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Wilbur Alan Brock.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamella and husband Jerry Hahn, of Dallas, Texas; one son, Dennis and wife Carol Kuhlman, of Salina; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. today, July 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakin, with Pastor Dennis Mason officiating, with burial in Lakin Cemetery, Lakin.
The family request memorials be given to the church or Kansas State University Foundation for the Erwin and Vera Kuhlman Memorials Scholarship Fund, in care of the Garnand Funeral Home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin 67860."--27 Jul 2010, The Salina (KS) Journal

Miriam was the married daughter of Thomas Brown, Atty at Law of Littleness, Salop. Afterward of Sweeney. The late Stanley Leighton of Sweeney Hall, Oswestry, many years M.P. (Member of Parliament) for Shropshire and his brother, Sir Baldwin Leighton Lolon Park and Lady Leighton (nee) Parker were descendants from Miriam's father through Thomas Brown of Sweeney b. 1682 a brother of Miriam Brown. Residence 1712 to 1725 was Twyford, West Felton, Shropshire, England. Residence in 1741 was Woolston, West Felton, Shropshire, England. Property at Littleness, Shropshire was passed to son Thomas.

Obituary
Emily Wilson Browning was born Feb. 6, 1828, near Lebanon, Virginia, and died July 7, 1908, aged 80 years, 5 months and 1 day. She was married to Benjamin L. Rouse, March 1, 1848. To this union were born 7 children--5 girls and 2 boys. Four girls and 2 boys survive her. She united with the M.E. church in 1848, at the age of 20 years.
