Was drafted together with his brother Henry into the army service as soon as they were old enough. Ferdinand was the tallest of the brothers, and the cleverest. Had a deep baritone voice as well as a fine education, and was a commanding officer in the King's Guard. He could write with both hands and hold a conversation at the same time, all on different subjects. His capability made him almost indispensable in the army.

Bob also finds that Edward and Sabina were sponsors of two baptisms at Dryland in 1763. He is the source of the children's names.
