According to Dawood, Thomas Jackman Sr received a 419 acre patent of land 28 June 1728 in the settlement of Rapphannock next to that of John Blower. John Blower received a grant of 453 acres on 9 April 1727 on the Great Run of the North Branch of Rapphannock River on the upper side of Watry Mountain. This area was in Prince William county, Va at first and after in Fauquier county, Va. This area was on the other side of Watry Mountain from the Wright family's grant.
On 19 May 1736 in Prince William Co, Thomas was bondsman for Mary Smith, administrator of the estate of William Smith. On 26 September 1737, Thomas made oath he witnessed will of James Henderson and on 28 Feb 1738 and 24 Jul 1739, Thomas received # 0.15.0 from the estate. Thomas replaced Thomas James as road surveyor in 1769 in Fauquier Co, Va. In 1771, he sold to Elias Edmonds, 128 acres on Cedar Run in Fauquier Co, part of his 1742 patent. In 1776, he gave sons Richard and Adam (both of Dunmore (Shenandoah) tracts of land granted him in 1742 and 7128. Witnesses were Thomas Jackman Jr, Thomas Stone and James Neaville. In 1777, he divided the 1740 grant between his sons Thomas Jr and William. Joseph Jackman was the witness. His will was written 15 Mar 1776 with witnesses as Thomas James, John Johnson and Henry Moffett, Jr and probated 1782 in Fauquier Co. He named sons and daughters given in this database.

Thomas's will goes as follows: In the name of God, Amen this fifteenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy six. I Thomas Jackman of Fauquier County being weak of body but of perfect memory thanks be to God for it. Therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament that is to say I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors which I shall appoint my Sons Thomas Jackman and Richard Jackman and Adam Jackman and Joseph Jackman nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I leave and dispose of the same in the following manner and form following. To my Son Thomas Jackman, one hundred and thirty acres of land where he now lives and he is to pay Betty Hone (Stone) 50 shillings out of it for that is all I intend for her out of my Estate as witness my hand Thomas Jackman Sen.; To my Son Richard Jackman, my Pignut Ridge tract of land and he is to pay my daughter Sarah Nevil 50 shillings out of it for that is all I intend for her out of my Estate as Witness my hand Thomas Jackman Sen.; I leave to my Son Adam Jackman, my old plantation tract of land lying at the Watry Mountain and he is to pay Margaret Underwood 50 shillings out of it for that is all I intend for her out of my Estate as witness my hand Thomas Jackman Sen.; I leave to my Son William Jackman, 100 acres of land where he now lives or less beginning at the popular spring branch and a strait line by a great rock to the black bottom branch then to Miller's line and thence along and so to the beginning and if he should die without heir lawfully begotten of his body it shall fall to my Son Joseph and likewise leave to William Jackman my negro child Charles and he is to pay Mary Walker 50 shillings out of it for that is all I intend for her out of my Estate as witness my hand Thomas Jackman Sen., I leave to my Son Joseph, the plantation where I now live which is the remainder after my Son Thomas and William is laid off, and I likewise leave to my Son Joseph my negro man Jack and my negro man Ralph and my negro Woman Cate and my Still and all my Stock but my riding horse and Saddle that I leave to my son John Jackman and all the rest of my stock to my son Joseph Jackman consisting of horses, mares and Colts, Sheep and Cattle and hogs and all my household furniture, beds Chests chairs pewter pots and tools of all kinds and I so order it that he pay Ann Smith 50 shillings out of it for that is all I intend for her out of it As witness my hand Thomas Jackman...And I further order that he first of all pay all my debts and take care of his mother and never disturb her as long as she shall live. And it is ordered that she shall have possession of the house where I now live as long as she lives and never be molested. And I further leave to my Son Joseph all debts due to me from any person or persons and if he should die without heir lawfully begotten of his that it shall fall to my son Adam otherwise to my Son Joseph and his heirs forever. Remember that my Son and to my Son Joseph Jackman is interlined for I intend none of my stock for John but my horse and saddle; I still leave to my Son John Jackman, one Negro girl Sal and my Rifle Gun and if he should die without heir lawfully begotten of his body then to my Son Joseph. I leave to my Daughter Hannah Smith, one Negro girl named Nan; To Daughter Rebecca Smith, one Negro girl named Milly. And this is my Will that my Estate shall not be appraised nor inventoried and if any one of my Children shall grumble or be dissatisfied at this my Will he or she I do allow but one shilling Sterling and the part I intended for them is to be equally divided amongst the rest of my Children. And so I again appoint Thomas Jackman and Richard Jackman and Adam Jac,man and Joseph Jackman full and sole Executors of this my last Will and testament hereby revoking disannulling and making void all former Wills and Requests by me made but this only to be my last Will and testament in Witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written. Thos. Jackman LS. Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Thomas Jackman to be his last Will and testament in presents of us the subscribers. At a court held for Fauquier County the 25th day of March 1782 This Will was proved by the oaths of Thomas James and John Johnson Witnessses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Joseph Jackman one of the Executors therein names who made oath and executed and acknowledged bond as the law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
