According to Tazewell County Clerk, a birth certificate is on file at Illinois state offices. Office of Vital Records, Illinois Department of Public Health, Springfield, Ill. 62702-9986. Attn: Birth Records. However, the state office declined to search because the date of birth is earlier than 1916. 1916 is the earliest "official" records on file at the state, they say.

This info is attributed to August Hahn, Jr in "Pioneer Life Of the Fairview Community" in 'History of Kearny County,Kansas': When I started to school I could not speak English which made it hard for the teacher to instruct me at first, but soon she was able to make the rest of the pupils understand what I was trying to tell them. There were a lot of children in the Fairview neighborhood, so we had a lot of fun. Had a lot of parties where the young and old ones all attended.
In 1922, the 22nd day of March, Laura Downs and I were married at Lakin. That year, the day before I was to start harvesting, we had a big hailstorm which pounded the wheat into the ground, broke out windows, killed some chickens and even knocked holes in the side of Walker's frame house as the hailstones were real large. At that time, Laura and I were living in the old Al Wilson place, three quarters of a mile east of my folk's place....
May 30, 1923 our first son, Orval, was born, then November 26, 1924, our daughter Dorothy was born. In September 1926, our second daughter, Lois, was born. We got a bunch of milk cows and milked them along with the farming to make ends meet.
In the spring of 1927, we moved over in the edge of Wichita County on the Bill Page farm, where more pasture was available for our cattle. Then, in the spring of 1929, we moved back to Kearny county on the Charley Bush homestead. We stayed there two years, then Mr. and Mrs. Wllsworth Keener moved out on that place and we moved on the Bill Brewer farm, living there several years, where in September 1936, our second son Dallas was born. We then bought a home over in the edge of Wichita county where we lived until the spring of 1965 and traded it for a home in the north part of Leoti, where we have some irrigated land we rent out. Our family is all married now, living in homes of their own.
